The sad assumption of
implicit bias
is that my neighbor is running out for drugs when really
it’s just a food delivery

The urgencies of our bodies are all the same
but he will spend a life explaining his
while I take the luxury of my private decisions
for granted

God give us the courage to see
the shackles of our own assumptions
to overthrow the thought that comes first
for the reality in plain sight

A brown skinned man once said
to the trees willing to grow:
you will know the truth
and the truth will set you free
